The tunisian south is rich in many important natural resources, which have been mobilized and exploited through the successive developmental plans. The main resources are :

• Mining riches ( significant supplies of phosphate).
• Important hydraulic resources (921 million m3 / year).
• A rich and varied supplies of fish, with high exportable quality, available in the Gulf of Gabes as well as in the lakes of Boughrara and Elbibane.
• Vast areas of soil suitable for agricultural exploitation (area: 829.750 hectares).
• Natural fodder resources and vast range-lands (area: 3.700.100 hectares).
• Varied construction materials that can be exploited and industrialized, such as clay, marble, and gypsum.
