The Governorate of Gabes is located in the Southeast of Tunisia, and covers an area of around 7.166 km2. It is bordered to the north by the Governorate of Sfax, to the south by the Governorate of Medenine, to the east by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the west by the Governorates of Kebili and Gafsa.
It has 10 delegations, 10 municipalities, and 09 rural councils.

Main characteristics of the governorate of Gabes :
A distinct geographical location: the Governorate of Gabes is located at a crossroad joining the North to the South. It also has a coastal zone extending along 80km, which contributed to the strengthening and varying of its relationships with the national and the international surrounding.
Important natural resources: the Governorate is rich in natural resources namely, the hydraulic resources, fishing resources, prairies, coasts and plains, all of which have been exploited in intensifying the agricultural production and varying the economic foundation of the region.
Basic infrastructure : A modern and adequate infrastructure composed of :
- A modern road network.
- A railway network,135 km long, joining the Governorate to Sfax and Gafsa.
- A commercial and industrial port.
- An international airport.
