The Governorate of Gafsa
 

Click here to get full size map The Governorate of Gafsa is located in the southern sector of the Saharian Atlas, in the Southwest of Tunisia, between the High Steppes and the desert. It is bordered to the north by the governorates of Sidi Bouzid and Kasserine; to the south by the Governorates of Kebili and Tozeur; to the east by the Governorates of Gabes and Sidi Bouzid; and to the west by the Governorate of Tozeur and Algeria. Covering a total area of 7 807 km2.

The Governorate of Gafsa has 11 delegations, 08 municipalities and 09 rural councils.

Main Characteristics of the Governorate of Gafsa :

Geographical location: It is a crossroad joining the North to the South and the East to the West, situated in the middle of three economic regions, and surrounded by five governorates. It also separates between the plains of the country and its desert.

Diverse natural resources and riches ( important Hydraulic resources and phosphate…).

Modern and developed basic infrastructure (a road network, airport, railways…).
