The Governorate of Gafsa is located in the southern sector of the Saharian Atlas, in the Southwest of Tunisia, between the High Steppes and the desert. It is bordered to the north by the governorates of Sidi Bouzid and Kasserine; to the south by the Governorates of Kebili and Tozeur; to the east by the Governorates of Gabes and Sidi Bouzid; and to the west by the Governorate of Tozeur and Algeria. Covering a total area of 7 807 km2.
The Governorate of Gafsa has 11 delegations, 08 municipalities and 09 rural councils.
